Obituary

John A. Johnson, 74, of Rock Island, Illinois passed away Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Allure of the Quad Cities, Moline, Illinois.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

John was born on August 20, 1952, in Ottawa, Illinois, the son of Clarion B. and Donna M. (Nelson) Johnson.

John was educated in the Moline public schools. He attended Black Hawk College in Moline and Augustana College in Rock Island studying computer science and business.

He married Judith L. Hartwig in Rock Island on September 18, 1971. Together they raised two daughters, Misty and Andrea.

John worked at Eagles grocery store during his high school and college years. He was employed at Davenport Bank as a computer technician. He later provided childcare for his two granddaughters, Alexandria and Taylor.

John enjoyed many sports and outdoor activities such as fishing, running, biking, softball, soccer, and disc golf. He especially enjoyed tennis.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Judith, daughters, Misty (Michael) Sierens, Milan, IL, and Andrea (Patrick) Klopfenstein, Morton, IL, grandchildren, Alexandria Sierens (Sean) Getchell, Taylor Sierens, Dayne, Emmitt and Trevor Klopfenstein, brothers, Gary (Aggie) Johnson, Muscatine, and Scott (Trish) Johnson, Moline, sisters, Susan Tackabury, Coal Valley, and Gail (Kevin) Cavins, Moline, and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents.
