John L. Liphardt, 96, of rural Milan, peacefully passed on Thursday, June 12, 2014.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Burial will be at Chapel Grove Cemetery, Taylor Ridge. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church or Retreat and Refresh Stroke Camp (Trinity Chapter).

John was born to Lawrence and Nellie Liphardt on December 20, 1917 in Bowling Township, Rock Island County. On September 27, 1942, he married his lifetime love Dora Brasmer and enjoyed celebrating 71 years of marriage in 2013 with family and friends.

With a love for the fields and passion for animals, he was a lifelong farmer in Bowling Township and member of Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church. John and Dora enjoyed square dancing across the country and with the "Roll-A-Ways" square dance club. During what was to be considered his retirement, John was busy gardening, wintering in Texas and seeing the country via motor home.

Surviving is his wife, Dora, daughters and sons-in-law, Linda (Duward) Inch, Milan, Marilyn (Bill) Reimer, Johnsburg, IL, and Debra (Scott) Crowl, Milan; grandchildren, Becky (David) Pilger, John Casey (Pam) Inch, Josh Inch, Jeff (Jenn) Reimer, Christina Crowl, Andrea (Greg) Doi; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Nate, Riley, Samantha and Cole; sister Bernice Stropes, Orion.

John was preceded in death by his parents, grandson John Reimer, and sisters Millie Gaudino, Mary L. Stropes and Vera Lester.
