John Lee Lundahl of Merrimac, Wisconsin, formerly Moline/Rock Island, Illinois passed away December 23, 2023, at UW-Health University Hospital, Madison, surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. 11:00am at the funeral home. Following the service, John's family would like you to join them at Riverhouse, 1510 River Drive, Moline to celebrate John's life.

John leaves behind a legacy of love, family, friendship, and many constructed, rebuilt, and repaired objects – from industrial innovations to buildings and remodels, to children's and grandchildren's toys.  His friends and neighbors relied upon him for ready assistance, unique and unusual tools, and skilled project advice.

John was born in Moline, Illinois, to Lee Duane and Nancy (Hinckley) Lundahl on March 2, 1947.  He graduated from Rock Island High School and attended Michigan State University, though remaining an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.  He married Debbie Janov in 1968, and together they raised the three "Lundahl Girls:" Elizabeth (Bobby) Poteete, Juliana (Jon) Bixby, and Leslie (Kevin) McCleary.  John married Lori Scroggs in 2003 and welcomed her daughter Noelle (Michael) Rizzio into the family.

John found career success through his work at Fabri-Glass, Inc., working first for his Uncle Jim McNamara, and then for 30+ years as Owner and President.  He designed and manufactured for Caterpillar, IH, John Deere, Mitsubishi, Navistar and many other companies large and small.  John's intricate design and manufacturing expertise was his gift and his work brought him great pride and satisfaction.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mike Lundahl.  John is survived by his wife, Lori Scroggs, youngest brother, Jim (Paula) Lundahl, daughters, and grandchildren: Maddie, Will, and Cody Poteete; Alexander and Isabella Bixby; Cullen and Josephine McCleary, Sam Rizzio, and great-grandson Miles Poteete.

Anyone who knew John knew he loved his family, his dogs, and his boats, not necessarily in that order.  In his younger years, John was part of the rambunctious Watch Hill Boys and he relished his summers spent fishing at the Lundahl family cabin in Sioux Narrows, Ontario.  John cherished his family and created endless memories spending weekends boating on the Cap'n Crunch, loading up bikes, skis and family friends for weekend adventures, FAC, coaching his girls' sports teams, bridge club, many family vacations, restoring and driving his Avanti Studebaker and taking great pride in his impeccably manicured lawns.   John served on the board of Bethany Home and was a long-time member of the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club.   John was always up for a good time with good friends.   Everyone has a favorite John Lundahl story.

John loved walking and hiking with his beloved Springer and Brittany Spaniels, fishing in Canada with friends, sons-in-law, and grandsons, and piloting his 1941 Chris-Craft across and around Lake Wisconsin.  Though he retired, he never slowed down and enthusiastically pursued camping, kayaking, and searching out as many Wisconsin supper clubs as possible with his wife and their dog.  His passions influenced his grandchildren, as future engineers, boaters and water lovers, and weather enthusiasts. He adored his grandchildren, driving boats together, attending their games, matches, music and theater programs, and birthday celebrations, always cheering them on.

As Spring turns to Summer, a Celebration of Life will follow in Merrimac, Wisconsin, featuring John's favorite local musicians, food establishments, and cheers on the pier.
