John B Mayhew passed away peacefully at home with his family on
Wednesday August 30, 2017 after battling a 2 month fight with leukemia.

Funeral services will be 10:00am Saturday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 801 W. Edgington, Reynolds. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm Friday at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service at 7:00pm. Burial will be in Buffalo Prairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children.

Mr. Mayhew was born June 21, 1937 in Duncan Township to Floyd and Veneta Braucht Mayhew.  John resided in Duncan township his entire life. He
graduated from Joy High School in 1955. On May 16th  1959 he married
Leora May Quayle in Reynolds.  He spent his entire life farming and
enjoyed showing livestock with his son and later grandson at county,
state and national shows.

Mr. Mayhew actively participated in the Masonic Lodge and was a member of Andalusia Lodge 516 and honorary member of Sherman Lodge 535 and Eureka Lodge 69 and former member of Buffalo Prairie Lodge 679. He also belonged to Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline.

Later in life he and Leora enjoyed traveling with their travel club and also taking
trips to Florida to visit their grandson.  He retired from farming in
2002 but still remained on the family farm in Aledo, IL.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Leora; grandson,  John Dale
Mayhew and his husband John Witherspoon of Jacksonville, FL.; sister, Martha Nielsen of Aledo. He is preceded in death by his son
Jaycee Mayhew in 1984, his parents and grandparents, his brother in
law Eugene Nielsen and  Brother in Law John Quayle and sister-in-law
Mary.
