John J. Mossage, 86, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022, surrounded by family and loved ones. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 13 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, with the Recitation of the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Alleman High School or UnityPoint Hospice.
John was born August 20, 1935, in Albia, Iowa to Joseph and Ellen (Petty) Mossage. He graduated from Alleman High School in 1953 and married his high school sweetheart Barbara Noppe on November 26, 1955, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. John retired as the owner of John Mossage Builder. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially canoeing, deer hunting, fishing, and cycling. He and a friend bicycled through Europe twice. John also liked antique tractors and cars. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and taking his grandchildren fishing and to garage sales.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; children, Jeff and Sue Mossage, Jill and Ken Evans, Jay and Ivy Mossage, and Jessica and Jack Schwindt; grandchildren, Jon and Jackie Evans, Jared and Becky Evans, Jacob and Amy Evans, Jamie and Deric Lane, Johnna Mossage, Joe and Kelly Callahan, Marvin Amiths, Angelica and Josh Brook, Jacqueline and David Miller, Jennifer Mossage and Jeremy Mossage, and Mary Ann and Anthony Schwindt; great-grandchildren, Shawn Murphy II, Leah and Sylar Callahan, Gabriel, Scarlet, Bella, Shelby, Kayleigh, Elizabeth, Caroline, Selah, Caleb, Koen, and Ansley Evans, and Emilia and Aria Miller; sister, JoAnn Parr; dog daughter, Lily; and grand-dogs, Shemp and Reyna.
John was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Rene and Goldie Noppe; and several extended family members.
