John "Jack" P. Milefchik, 87, of Rock Island, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022, at Hope Creek Nursing Center, East Moline. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am, Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm, Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the family, where a memorial fund will be established at a later date.
Jack was born on July 3, 1935 in Pocahontas, Iowa, a son of George and Mary Milefchik. He married Jeannette Dirks on April 1, 1967 in Pocahontas. Jack retired as a supervisor from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1990 after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Moline American Legion Post 246. Jack enjoyed working on clocks and spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. Mr. Milefchik was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; children, Lisa (Bill) Harrington, Bettendorf and Marty (Mindy) Milefchik, Moline; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Camryn, Abby, Brady, and Blake; siblings, Peggy (Jerry) Hammes, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Dick (Jolayne) Milefchik, Princeton, Iowa, Patty (Jim) Wills, Cedar Rapids, Judy (Tim) Kearney, Chaska, Minnesota.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas M. Milefchik; siblings, Eugene Milefchik, Loretta Shalik, Betty Halder, and Francis Milefchik.
