John E. Wells, 86, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday July 2, 2019 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island, after a long illness.

Visitation will be from 3:30-7:00pm Monday July 8, 2019, at Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm.  A Mass of Christian burial will held at 10:00am Tuesday July 9, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island following Mass.

John was born on December 23, 1932 in Rock Island, the son of Eugene and Teresa Wells. He married the former Jewel Stark, they had one child, Michael Eugene Wells. He later married Maryl Nier, who preceded him in death.  He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest sister Mary Wells Costello, and infant brother James Ronald Wells.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tina Wells(Evesque), Crystal Lake, IL; grandchildren, John Wells, Dana Perrill and Jessica Wells; and a great granddaughter, Mia Perrill; 5 siblings, Robert Wells, Joseph Wells, Theresa Cavins, Jeanne Visteen, and Joan Wells; and  numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

John graduated from Alleman High School in Rock Island, and graduated from St. Ambrose College Davenport Iowa.  Mr. Wells had been employed as a chemical lab technician for most of his life with UOP.

John enjoyed golfing and was an accomplished bridge player in which he achieved a master's status.  John was a devout Catholic and had attended seminary he also enjoyed Latin mass.

Memorials in John's name may be left to Alleman High School and St. Ambrose University.
