Joseph "Joe" C. Harroun, 88, of Reynolds, IL passed away October 31, 2024 at his home. A funeral service will be at 10 am Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 801 W. Edgington St, Reynolds. Visitation will be from 4 – 6:30 pm Wednesday, November 6, 2024 with a masonic service being conducted at 6:30 pm by the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge No. 679 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Reynolds Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge 679 or the UIHC Stead Family Children's Hospital.
Joe was born in Moline, Illinois on February 28, 1936, to Joseph E. and Darlene Veeder Harroun. He married Janet J. Murphy on September 21, 1957 and they shared 2 children and 66 wonderful years together. Joe was blessed with 4 children, Fred (Robin) Harroun, Judy (Dan Hayes) Lawnsdale, Chuck (Tammi) Harroun and Deb (Jeff )Thomas.
Joe's professional career began in the 1950s when he became an electrical lineman. He traveled as a lineman and foreman for several contracting companies before he settled with his family in Reynolds in 1970 as superintendent for Sherrard Power System. He retired from Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric in 1995 but continued to work as a project inspector for MidAmerican Energy Co.
In his young years Joe enjoyed playing softball, boxing, hunting and fishing. He grew to be an avid sportsman and had several champion bird dogs, coon hounds and bass fishing tournament trophies. Over the years he and Jan could be found roller skating, dancing, camping, fishing and working together in their taxidermy business. Joe was a 32nd Degree Mason, as an active member at the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge. Joe taught his kids and grandkids countless life lessons. He wasn't shy to say how blessed he was to have a wonderful wife, kids and grandkids. His heart was bigger than most people knew.
He is survived by his children; 14 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren with another on the way; 3 great-great grandchildren and 1 sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers and 1 great grandson.
