IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joy
Tunberg-Taylor
August 6, 1930 – July 7, 2019
On July 7, 2019, a little bit of warmth and sunshine has left the planet with the passing of Joy Tunberg-Taylor. She was 88 years old.
Visitation will be on Sunday, July 14, 2019 from 2 pm to 4 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 1 pm on Monday, July 15, 2019 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, with the Reverend Dr. Wilfred Karsten officiating. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery on Arsenal Island after the service.
Joy grew up in Moline, graduating from Moline High School. She went on to become a dedicated and gifted Registered Nurse, graduating from Augustana College's nursing program in affiliation with Lutheran Hospital. Joy started her long career in nursing as a private nurse and then went to work at the former Ericco Clinic in Moline. She took time off to start her family and moved to Rock Island. Some years later, Joy returned to nursing at Moline Public Hospital. She retired from nursing with over 30 years of service. Joy married Jack Taylor and moved to Coal Valley. She later moved to IN to be closer to family.
Joy didn't have green thumbs, she had green hands. Her home, inside and out, was a beautiful garden of plants and flowers. She loved to garden and the results were very large and delicious vegetables. Joy was also an excellent cook and baker, well known for her strawberry rhubarb pie, Swedish meatballs and wonderful banana and zucchini breads. She was a big animal lover; dogs, cats, rabbits and birds were always part of the household.
Joy enjoyed participating in many activities. She was a Rainbow Girl, belonged to Women's Club, the PTA and a local card club. She and her husband, Jack, enjoyed volunteering at the John Deere Classic Golf Tournament every year. She loved to entertain and go out dancing. Joy was a long time member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline.
The most important thing to Joy was family. Her deep abiding love, overwhelming generosity and many sacrifices were deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.
Joy is survived by her son Chris and wife Syndi (IN), her daughter Michele Schotanus and husband Ed (CT), stepdaughter Christine Taylor (IL), grandson Zachary Tunberg (IN), granddaughter Aubrey Tunberg (IN), grandson Ian Schotanus (Susan), (MN), 4 great-grandchildren, Eamonn, Aldric, Auren and Idana Schotanus (MN), sister Elsa Lee Richmiller (IL) and multiple nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jack Taylor and her parents, James and Corrine Samuelson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, Brookdale Hospice, Indianapolis, IN or to the Quad Cities Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
