Joyce M. Anderson, 92, of Rock Island, died Thursday, Aug. 28, at Silver Cross, Friendship Manor, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025, at First Lutheran Church, Rock Island, with visitation to be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be left in care of First Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Joyce was born Jan. 1, 1933, in Moline, the daughter of Philip and Albertina (Carlson) Peterson. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1950 and married John T. "Jack" Anderson on June 21, 1952, in Rock Island. She and Jack lived in Pekin, Ill., for one year before returning to Rock Island, where they raised their children, Tim, Cindy, and Cherie. Joyce was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church, Rock Island, and the RIHS '50s Club. She also worked at various periods in her life at Sylvia's, The Dispatch, Larson Funeral Home, and Ryan's Hallmark Store.
Joyce's kindness and graciousness defined her throughout her life and she always put others' needs before her own. Above all, she loved her children and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as "Nanny."
Survivors include her son, Tim Anderson (and his partner, Wanda Esping), Rock Island, daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Terry Lamansky, Brighton, Michigan, and Cherie and Joe Payne, Rock Island; grandchildren, Ryan Anderson, Matt (Melanie) Anderson, Kristin (Terry) Stambaugh, Nikolai (Katie) Lamansky, Alexey (Lewis) Knudsen, Katrina (Kristopher) Keuning, Samuel (Anna) Payne, and Benjamin (Brianna) Payne; and great-grandchildren Max, Wyatt, Owen, Vinny, Ivy, Levi, Theo, and Eryn. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Dorothy, Donald, Kenneth, and Keith.
Her family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and the staff at Friendship Manor, who provided Joyce with wonderful care and compassion during her years in assisted living and later at Silver Cross. Many of you became part of Joyce's family, and she loved you dearly.
