Deyoung
October 13, 1940 – October 27, 2016
Joyce A. DeYoung, 76, of Moline passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at her home. A memorial visitation for Mrs. DeYoung will be Friday, November 11, 2016 from 1 to 3 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, Rock Island. Joyce was born on October 13, 1940 in Rock Island, a daughter of Hubert and Elizabeth Ringle Atkins. She graduated from Rock Island High School and Lutheran School of Nursing. In 1962 she married her high school sweetheart, Paul DeYoung. They celebrated 47 years together. They traveled with friends in their camper seeing the United States. Joyce loved to cook and entertain her family and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading and playing card games. Her family and friends helped her cope with the unexpected loss of her husband, Paul in 2009. Nursing only part time allowed her to do community service. She felt it was important to give back and serve. Activities and membership include the Junior Club of Rock Island, Junior Auxiliary of the Rock Island Visiting Nurses Association, Louisa May Alcott Circle of Kings Daughters, Rock Island County Republican Women's Club, Meals on Wheels, Christian Friendliness, Rock Island Sesquicentennial Committee. Joyce was also active at her former church, First Evangelical Free Church. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. At age 50 she and her husband, Paul started All Uniform and Textile Sales Inc. Their son, John joined the company in 2008. She felt blessed to have so many wonderful friends. Survivors include her children, Jeffery (Michele) DeYoung, Anne (Scott) Jones and John DeYoung; sister, Lois (Dr. Steven) Hawk; grandchildren, Ben and Brynn, DeYoung, Shelbe and Seth Jones, Emily, Madelyn and Adam DeYoung; and many nieces and nephews.
