Joyce D. Dickerson, 86, of Rock Island, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Services for Mrs. Dickerson will be 11 am Tuesday at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics (FAST) PO Box 608, Downers Grove, IL 60515. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Joyce was born on May 22, 1929 in Nokomis, Illinois, a daughter of Ralph and Sarah Fern (Dorr) Bowman. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1947 and from Springfield Memorial School of Nursing in 1951. She married Theodore Dickerson on November 25, 1954 in Butler, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1994. Joyce was a registered nurse, a member of Moline Public Retirees, Moline Township Senior Activity Center, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). Joyce loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards and was dedicated to helping others through her volunteer work at the Red Cross and Churches United.

Survivors include her children, Gregg (Sharon) Dickerson, Rock Island, David Dickerson, Kyoto, Japan, and Jill Dickerson, Elmhurst, Illinois; six grandchildren, Kristy (Bill) Honiotes, Nicole Dickerson, Emily Schwass, Kelsi Dickerson, Lauren Schwass and Kaley Schwass; one great grandchild, Ava June Honiotes; sisters, Hazel Redman, Beverley Davis, and Helen Brinkman.
