Joyce A. Lemkau, 85, of Rock Island, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014, at her home.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to the service time on Thursday, September 18th, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Joyce was born on July 3, 1929 in Lincoln, NE., the daughter of Samuel P. and Marcia (Berry) Lindley. She graduated from High School in Sacramento, CA. and from the University of Nebraska where she earned a degree in journalism. Joyce married Lyle Lemkau on November 3, 1951 in Lincoln, NE. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2013.

Mrs. Lemkau was a member of South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island and Gama Phi Beta Sorority. She was also a small business owner for 20 years in Rock Island and was an active member of the Hilltop Business Association. Earlier in life, she was involved with the Metro Miniature Makers Club, Rock Island Schools PTA, and American Heart Fund. She also enjoyed playing Bridge with her longtime friends.

She is survived by her children, Bruce E. (Portia) Lemkau, Peoria, AZ; Marcia B. Lemkau, Everett, WA, James B. Lemkau, Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Benjamin C. (Rachael) Lemkau, Lauren C. (Adam) Pavlik, and Lauren A. Lemkau; great granddaughter Madelynn N. Lemkau.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Beverly Lindley.
