Judy was born August 12, 1942 in Moline, the daughter of Howard and Tillie (Van Zante) Husson. She grew up in Moline as the middle child of 5 children in her family. She married Gary C. Linn November 24, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline. They had 3 daughters, Shelley Rae, Leslie Anne, and Sheryl Beth who sadly passed away shortly after birth.
She graduated from Moline High School in 1960. She began her career as an administrative assistant at Modern Woodman for a couple years and then began her professional journey at the Rock Island Arsenal. In her early time at RIA, she balanced raising her two girls while climbing the government ranks. Her last role in her career was as a Country Program Manager with the Security Assistance division. In this position, she represented the US Army with foreign customers. She retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in March 2003 with 32 years of service. She spent a few additional years supporting the Security Assistance division as a contractor.
Judy’s life was centered around family and tradition. She was a rock in her family; the person every family member would lean on in a time of need. Whenever possible, she would make home cooked meals and deliver them to family and friends, often using the recipes from her mother. Judy was a devoted mother to Shelley and Leslie, making sure that her girls were able to enjoy their friends and be successful in school, despite the challenges of being a working mother. She was also a proud grandma of her 3 grandchildren. Even though she lived far from them, she always made sure to visit them often, usually including a soccer game, basketball game, track meet, or other event where she could cheer them on with grandmotherly exuberance.
Travel adventures were regularly planned. Judy had many vacations abroad, visiting family and experiencing new places. She also traveled for work, significantly to Thailand. In more recent years, she was able to attend the college graduation celebration weekends for the 3 grandchildren at their respective universities.
Judy generously supported causes that were important to her. She was a longtime volunteer at Unity Point-Trinity Rock Island Hospital where she enjoyed caring for infants. She also spent several years tutoring grade school children. Judy always was able to make each child feel special.
Judy lived in her home for 60 years and was a kind and generous neighbor. She established lifelong friendships with many of her neighbors, especially Joann Love who preceded her in death. Judy loved keeping in touch with friends new and old.
Survivors include her daughters, Shelley (Paul) Chay, Kenosha, WI and Leslie Linn (David Kuhl) Rochester, MI; grandchildren, Alexander Chay (Lausanne, Switzerland), Reid Kuhl (Chicago, IL) and Kendall Kuhl (Rochester, MI); sisters, Janice (John) Carbone and Sally (Stephen) Turke; brothers, Richard Husson and Howard Husson, Jr. and many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Sheryl Beth Linn; sisters-in-law, Darla Husson and Patricia Husson; half-sister, Shirley Jeanine May; and former husband Gary Linn.
