Obituary

Judy C. Shryack, 80, of Johnston, IA, passed away Monday, December 30, 2024, at Edencrest at Green Meadows in Johnston, IA.

A visitation will be held from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 2106 7th Ave, Rock Island, IL , with a memorial service following at 1:00pm. Burial will be with her husband Dannie at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Care Initiative Hospice, who took great care of her.

Judy Carol Shryack was born on October 10th, 1944, to Willard James and Clara Rahama Sheraden in Rock Island, Illinois.  She was born and raised there and first met the love of her life while in grade school.  As rumor had it in the family, then ten-year-old Dannie "rescued" her from a group of boys that were teasing all the girls during class recess.  They became fast friends and grew up together.  After graduating high school, Judy followed one of her passions in life to become a registered nurse while Dannie went on to serve in the Army.  They were married on October 9, 1965, in Rock Island.

Over the course of more than three decades as a registered labor and delivery nurse, Judy had the honor of welcoming thousands of new babies into the world, along with caring for new mothers.  Whether at the hospital or at home, she was devoted in caring for others.   Judy was first and foremost a family person.  She loved to be with her family, and hosted many big get togethers over the years.  She loved to travel, to celebrate events, to bake treats, and to decorate her entire house for every holiday - she loved sparkle and glam.  And she loved jewelry, which she collected throughout her entire life.

Dannie and Judy retired together in 2001, and spent much of the next two decades traveling in their motor home.  They became members of the Quad City Winnies, logging several hundred thousand miles across the United States and into Canada.  She was a member of the former Memorial Heights United Methodist Church.

Judy and Dannie were together most of their lives, and they were truly inseparable.  She loved him deeply and was by his side when he passed away in January 2021 after caring for him through several years of illness. In her final years, Judy was able to be near her son and his family in the Des Moines area after Dannie passed.

Those left to cherish Judy's memory are her children Christopher (Lisa) Shryack and Kimberly (Chris) Pastega; grandchildren, Megan (Irvin) Stumberg, Kyle (Tayler) Shryack, Jason Shryack, Paige Shryack, Trevor Pastega, and Taylor Pastega; great-grandchildren, Stella Shryack and Chase Stumberg; brother, Robert (Mary Etta) Sheraden; and sister-in-law, Judith Shryack. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dannie.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Care Initiatives Hospice including Conso Slattery, her primary hospice nurse, and all the other care givers that helped her through her final days.  Judy is free now, resting in Heaven, beside her beloved Dannie.
