Julia M. Overton, 88, of Rock Island, passed away Friday April 22, 2016 at home.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Second Baptist Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at KNOX CHAPEL of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 2106 - 7th Ave., Rock Island, IL.

Julia was born November 28, 1927 in Wright City, Missouri, a daughter of Hobart and Minnie Robinson Ball. She married John W. Overton. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1982.

Julia will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of Second Baptist Church,  Rock Island, Martin Luther King Center Active Club, and former member of the Daughters of Isis and VFW Ladies Auxiliary, East Moline. She enjoyed attending the Aqua Aerobics class at the Rock Island Fitness Center. Julia was a wonderful baker and her peach cobbler was always a family favorite.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Robert Babers, Rock Island; granddaughers, Kayla and Jasmine Babers, both of Rock Island; grandsons, Damon Overton, East Moline, and Brian Buckner, and his wife Janise, Holt, MI; great-grandchilden, Alexis and Drake Buckner; brother and sister-in-law, Homer and Ethel Ball, Wright City, MO; and a host of loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Mark Overton; daughter, Marcella Buckner; brothers, Sparrow, Hobart Jr., Julius, and Edward Ball; and sisters, Elisabeth, Marie and Debra Ball, and Dorothy O'Day.
