IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julie Louise
(Herman) Cooper
October 17, 1941 – June 22, 2023
Julie Louise (Herman) Cooper, 81, recently of Kennesaw, GA, passed away on June 22, 2023 at Kennestone Hospital from complications of COPD.
Julie was born on October 17, 1941 in Davenport, IA to William and Leona (Markovitch) Herman. After graduating from Rock Island High School in 1959, Julie earned her bachelor's degree in History at the University of Iowa. As a student at Iowa, Julie was a member of Sigma Delta Tau sorority. While working on her degree, she also met her future husband, Sidney D. Cooper. On August 2, 1964 Julie and Sidney were married in Rock Island, Illinois. Since Sidney was in the Air Force, they spent the early years of their marriage stationed in various locations: Illinois, North Dakota, Florida, England, and Germany. Following Sidney's tour of duty, the couple eventually settled in St. Louis, Missouri. In addition to raising their two children, Julie worked for the Federal Government and retired in 2004.
Julie and Sid enjoyed many adventures together over the years and they loved to travel. Their family was the center of their lives and Julie loved to cook for, and host, family gatherings for the holidays. Julie was generous and thoughtful, had an inquiring mind, and wicked sense of humor. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her son Ian Cooper (Laura), daughter Jennifer Cooper (Tom Leeper); grandchildren: Sarah Cooper, Evan Cooper, Sidney Leeper, and Isaac Leeper; siblings Michael Herman (Willitte) and Ellie Herman (Richard Strauss); and cousin, Hershel Klein.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Leona (Markovitch) Herman; husband, Sidney D. Cooper; uncles, Harry P. Herman, David Klein, and Sam Lizerbrum; aunts, Sara (Herman) Klein and Helen (Markovitch) Lizerbrum; and cousin, Ivan Klein.
Per Julie's wishes, cremation has been accorded and private family services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations are much appreciated and may be made in Julie (Herman) Cooper's name to the American Lung Association (https://www.lung.org) or to a charitable organization of your choice.
