Obituary

Julius Carroll "Red" Pearson, 90, of Rock Island, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Hope Creek Nursing Center, East Moline. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, where military honors will be conducted by the Milan American Legion Post No. 569/200. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, Rock Island.

Carroll was born on August 28, 1933, in Rock Island, Illinois, a son of Otto and Addie (Bennett) Pearson. He married Teresa Boone on November 30, 1963, in Prophetstown, Illinois. He was a sheet metal worker for over 40 years, retiring in 1999, and was a proud U.S. Navy veteran. He enjoyed fishing, watching Chicago Cubs baseball, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carroll was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Allouez Council No. 658, Rock Island, Milan American Legion Post No.569/200, Rock Island Evening Lions Club, and the Sheet Metal Workers Local No. 91, Rock Island, for which he served as President for many years.

In 2008 Carroll was the City of Rock Island's Citizen of the Year and Grand Marshall of the Rock Island Labor Day Parade.

Carroll could often be found serving in and supporting the local community, especially at the local baseball fields, where he coached Little League for 12 years. He was also a dedicated volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry where he served as President for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Terry; sons, Mike (Bethany), Bluffton, SC; Greg (Angie), Milan; Brian (Jen), Rock Island; Jeff (Julie), Flower Mound, TX; and Tim (Lauren), New Lenox, IL; grandchildren, Tyler (Devon), Alex (Alexia), Jordan, Brittany (Wyatt) Klavon, Courtney (Olivia), Katarina, Conner, Maria, Emily, Jackson Crispin, Audrey, Lillian, Jane, and Grace and four great-grandchildren, Ava, Carson, Olivia, and Elena.

Carroll is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Ted, Clelland, Garth, Marcus, and Louis Pearson.
