Obituary

June M. Hedquist, 86, of Rock Island, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island, IL. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Rock Island or Friendship Manor, Rock Island.

June Marilyn Swanson was born October 30, 1927 in Moline, the daughter of Arthur L. and Ruth A. (Larson) Swanson. She married Elton T. "Swede" Hedquist on September 18, 1948 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2003.

She was a lifetime resident of Rock Island, graduating from Rock Island High School. She later received an Associate's Degree from Luther College, Wahoo, Nebraska. In earlier years she worked at Modern Woodman of America, Rock Island.

June was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church, Rock Island, and member of Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (W.E.L.C.A.), Charity Circle, and longtime member of the Church Altar Guild.

Additional memberships included Blanche B. Wurbs Circle of Kings Daughters, Past Rock Island City Union President of Kings Daughters, Friends of the Rock Island Public Library, Wives of Submarine Veterans of W.W. II and a Past State Commander, Rock Island Republican Women, Rock Island Y.W.C.A., Y-Wives, Go See Go Club, Rock Island Woman's Club, and Pinnacle Country Club.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Lynel and Jens Hetzler, Watertown, Wis.; son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Betty Hedquist, Bethalto, Ill.; grandchildren, Matthew Hetzler, Shawn (Fred) Belk, and Rachel (David) Allbee; great-granddaughters, Lakyn and Hallie Belk and Avid Allbee; brother and sister-in-law, Don A. and Sally Swanson, Moline; brother-in-law, Milton Hedquist, Rock Island; and many nieces and nephews.

June was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and her son, Lance Hedquist.
