June E. Thompson, 96, a resident of Heartland Health Care Center,

Health-Trinity Moline.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Wheelan-Pressly

Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation is 10 a.m. until

June was born April 20, 1918, in Davenport, one of two children born

to the union of Alfred and Hazel Nehlsen. She married Charles L.

Thompson on Feb. 16, 1980, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on

Dec. 5, 2011.

June was a secretary for more than 20 years at the Rock Island Arsenal

within the Department of Army's DARCOM. She retired from the Arsenal

and kept in regular contact with her much beloved Arsenal co-workers.

Her husband Chuck also retired from DARCOM.

She enjoyed playing the organ, traveling and ballroom dancing. June

had a ready smile and a twinkle in her eyes to go with it. She loved

gatherings with family and friends, especially the grandchildren and

great-nieces and great-nephews. She was a happy and cheerful person.

June and Chuck were married for 31 years and lived in Rock Island and

Moline. They took many trips throughout the U.S. during their

retirement.

For many years, June has resided at Heartland Health Care Center in

Moline. June's family wants to extend their appreciation to the staff,

caregivers, and management for all their care and devotion. During her

stay at Heartland, many of the Heartland staff became June's friends.

We also appreciate the kindness extended to our family.

Surviving are her stepson and daughter-in-law, Craig Thompson and Mary

Murphy, Oswego, Ill.; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Chris and Bill

Doron, Carmel, Ind.; niece and husband, Nancy and John Higgins,

Maquoketa, Iowa; nephew, Bill Nehlsen, Bettendorf; grandchildren,

Megan (Ryan) Lancour, Milwaukee, Wis., Keith C. Thompson, Colorado

Springs, Colo., Kyle and Grace Thompson, Oswego, Katie Doron,
