Karen A. Hostens, 77, Sherrard, IL passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at her home surrounded by family and under the care of hospice. As per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no service. The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date as she said to throw her a party, not a funeral. Memorials may be made to the family.
Karen was born February 2, 1947 to Bessie (Wright) and John Engelkens Sr. in Morrison, IL The family later moved to the Quad Cities where she attended East Moline High School.
Karen worked at Chick-A-Dee, her family's restaurant, in her younger years. She later spent her career in medical records at the Lutheran Hospital in Moline where she worked until her retirement.
On December 21, 1968 Karen was united in marriage to Jeffrey Hostens. The couple was married in East Moline and then later made their home in Sherrard.
Karen enjoyed fishing, boating, and playing euchre but what she loved most was spending time with her grandchildren.
Karen will be greatly missed by her husband of 56 years, Jeff; children, Lonnie (Jill) Hostens, Rebecca (DJ) Godsil, Daniel (Erika) Hostens; honorary daughter, Renee House; sister, Shirley Foy; grandchildren, Marissa, Ian and Eric Hostens; TJ, Ryan and Justin Godsil; Taylor and Shay Hostens; great-grandchildren, Hank and Oliver Hostens; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lisa Bockhouse; grandson, Hunter Hostens; siblings, John Engelkens Jr., Patricia Wiebenga, and David Engelkens.
The family would also like to acknowledge the wonderful hospice nursing staff who took the best care of her creating a special bond with her.
