Obituary

Karen Marie Reed, 73 of Jacksonville, FL formerly of the Illinois City, IL passed away peacefully, January 9, 2015 surrounded by family at St. Vincent's Medical Center – Southside following a short illness. Cremation rites were accorded. A graveside service will be at 11 am Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Andalusia Cemetery. Please come and celebrate her life with family and friends.

Karen was born in Rock Island, Illinois to Mary Wilma Jenkins and Archie Dean Scalf, and was the older sister to Carol Shaw of Canton, IL and Brother Archie "Red" Scalf of Philippines.

She married Arthur F. McCannon on November 23, 1960 in Cuba, Illinois from that union had two children - Gayle Lynn and Michelle Sue McCannon. She later married Otis G. Reed on October 27, 1964 in Muscatine, Iowa and from that union had a son Otis "Opie" Chant Reed.

Karen graduated from Cuba High School in Cuba, Illinois. She worked for the County Court Judge in Rock Island County; she then started her career at IH Farmall in Rock Island – from whom she retired when the plant closed. Karen then started her second career path with Team Industrials Services in multiple locations and finally in Houston, Texas retiring for the second time in March 2011.

Karen enjoyed bowling and participated on several bowling leagues when residing in the Quad Cities, She also enjoyed crocheting – and had created many keepsakes for family and friends and most recently for the NICU babies and Cancer patients at St. Vincent's Medical Center in the form of blankets., playing euchre and traveling with family and friends.

Karen was predeceased by her parents, Otis G. Reed and daughter - Gayle Lynn McCannon and granddaughter, Kortney Rae McCannon-deGaris.

She is survived by daughter - Michelle McCannon-deGaris (Brian Hepke) of Jacksonville, FL, son - Otis "Opie" Chant Reed (Sheri) and grandson – Doug Heath both of Andalusia, Illinois. Carol (Butch) Shaw, Archie Scalf, and many other family and friends.
