Karen Lynn (Shrake) Britton, 68, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by her family. Her life was a beautiful reflection of love, faith, and kindness — a steady light to all who knew her.
Born on April 17, 1957, in Moline, Illinois, Karen was the beloved daughter of Roy and Hermione (Erdman) Shrake. On March 4, 1978, she married the love of her life, John Sidney Britton, and together they shared 47 wonderful years filled with laughter, devotion, and family.
Karen was the proud mother of Jason (Anna) Britton, James (Amanda) Britton, and Kathryn Kress (Brent Behrens); and the adoring grandmother of Ean, Cameron, Madelyn, Noah, and Lindsey. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into every moment spent with them.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Randy Shrake. She is survived by her husband, John; her children and grandchildren; her brother, Terry (Gwen) Shrake; and sister-in-law, Pam Shrake.
For nearly 30 years, Karen served as secretary at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Milan, where her faith and gentle spirit touched countless lives. She led children's choir, taught Sunday School, and guided women's Bible studies, sharing her love for the Lord with warmth and grace.
Karen will be remembered for her selfless heart, her laughter, and her unwavering belief in the goodness of God. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, devotion, and faith that will continue to inspire all who loved her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Milan, Illinois.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Milan.
Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Rock Island. Memorials in Karen's name may be left to St. Matthews Lutheran Church.
