Kathleen H. Krone, 90, of Rock Island, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2014 at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Jordan Catholic School.
Kathleen Hunter was born Oct. 27, 1923 in Rock Island, a daughter of Harry and Catherine Dower Hunter. She married Frank J. Krone on June 10, 1944 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island. He died Aug. 20, 2002.
In early years, Kathleen worked for Bituminous Insurance, Rock Island and Wanamaker's in Philadelphia where her husband was stationed during WWII. She relished her role as a homemaker and devoted her life to her faith and family.
Kathleen was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a member of Circle One of the Altar and Rosary Society and Allouez Council 658 Knight of Columbus Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, baseball, working crossword puzzles and early morning visits to Sunset Park and the Mississippi River.
Survivors include her children, Mary Ellen (Charley) Arnold, Rock Island, Dr. Kathleen Krone, Lincoln, Neb., Frank (Sharon) Krone, Rock Island, and Thomas "T.J." Krone, Rock Island; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Craig, Edmonds, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; daughter, Karen Ann Krone; sisters, Helen Corken, Betty Mart and Agnes Kelly; and brother, Thomas McCarthy.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to Genesis Hospice for their compassionate assistance with mom's care.
