Obituary

Kenneth L. "Ken" McDougall, 90, a resident of Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the center.

Mr. McDougall has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at First Christian Church, Moline. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the Church. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Youth Endowment Fund of Wakonda Christian Church, Des Moines, Iowa.

Kenneth L. McDougall was born July 1, 1924 in Chisholm, Minn., a son of Russell and Beatrice Whipps McDougall. He married Margaret "Peg" Stockton on Oct. 21, 1950 in Chisholm.

Ken was a graduate of the University of Minnesota. He moved to Des Moines in 1955 from Kansas City, Mo., where he had worked for Hallmark Cards. He retired in 1986 from the Meredith Corporation after 31 years, where he held several positions including public relations directors and community relations director. Following his retirement he continued to work at Meredith in several capacities including, building tour guide. He and his wife Peg, moved to the Quad Cities in 2010.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of both WW II and the Korean Conflict. Ken and his wife served as the first resident managers of the Des Moines Ronald McDonald House. He had served on the boards of the Des Moines Botanical Center, NBA Ramsey House, the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center, Wakonda Christian Church, United Way of Central Iowa, Amanda the Panda, Heart Connection Children's Cancer Program, Citizen Scholarships Foundation of America, Des Moines Chapter Public Relations Society of America, and Shepherds Center of Greater Des Moines.

Surviving are his wife, Peg; a son, Dr. Mark (Debra) McDougall, Melbourne, Australia; daughter, Robin (Randall) James, Rock Island; grandchildren, Russell McDougall, Morgan (John) Morgan, Scott James, and Ellen James (fiancé, Jon Mulder); a great-granddaughter; and sister, Donna Sherman, Hibbing, Minn. He was preceded in death by a brother, James McDougall.

The family offers its heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hope Creek Care Center for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Ken.
