Kenneth Edward Tollenaer Sr., prominent Rock Island businessman, 89, of Milan, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 22, 2023, in Asheville, North Carolina. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2023, at the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Chippiannock Mausoleum, Rock Island.

Kenneth was born December 18, 1933, in Rock Island to Margaret (Tollenaer) Koloseus. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1951. Kenneth married Norma L. Sparks on August 29, 1954, in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on December 19, 2007. He worked at the Rock Island Argus as a pressman. Kenneth then bought the Standard Oil gas station on 11th Street in Rock Island in 1967. He operated the station for 41 years. Kenneth was a member of the former First United Methodist Church in Rock Island, the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club, and the Millcreek Country Club. He and Norma were avid and excellent golfers. Kenneth's passions were his family and his business. He also loved to travel with his beloved Norma and children.

Survivors include his children (and spouses), Kenneth (Karen) Tollenaer Jr., Sheryl Tollenaer, Stephen (Colleen) Tollenaer, and Julia (Jeff) Evans; grandchildren, Rebecca Wilburn, Elizabeth Otten, Amy McEvoy, Sarah Bower, Matthew Tollenaer, Jennifer Harland, Courtney Brickner, and Michael Evans; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Vyncke and Karen Gagnon; and special friend, Ellen Tighe.

Ken was preceded in death by his mother and wife, Norma.
