Kevin J. Basala, 63, of Matherville passed away on Saturday, June 17th, 2023 at home after a brief battle with cancer.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of Unity Point Hospice. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan is assisting the family.

Kevin was born on July 8, 1959, in Moline, the son of Robert and Billee (Adams) Basala. He married Dr. Patricia Gerleman Basala on June 27, 1981. Kevin was a union Ironworker out of Ironworkers Local 111, Rock Island for 45 years.

Kevin was a Village of Matherville Trustee and later Mayor. He was also a Mercer County Supervisor, County Board Chairman and served for 21 years on the Mercer County Building Commission. Kevin was a diehard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dr. Patricia Basala, Matherville; son, LT Bradley Basala, US Navy; brothers, Robert G. Basala and Joel Basala; and sister, Christine Evans.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents; and maternal grandparents.
