IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kim R
Woods
March 28, 1957 – May 18, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Kim R. Woods, a beloved member of the Rock Island community, who departed this life on May 18, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on March 28, 1957, in Rock Island, Illinois, Kim touched many lives with her warmth, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family.
Kim enjoyed many things, especially the arts and sciences and had a great appreciation for history. All of her life she gardened to some extent each year. Swimming was a favorite summer pastime. Kim had an eye for decorating and coordinating colors which lead to a passion for designing her home and everyone else's homes if asked. When a good song played, she couldn't resist dancing and singing along.
Every day was an adventure for Kim. There are 24 hours in each day, and she made them count with no need to have a plan. Spontaneous and adventurous would describe her well! When an opportunity to do something that appealed to her would arise, she jumped on it. She always had crafts she was working on and when Kim had no crafts, adventures, decorating, art, or anything else to do, you would find her cleaning her home. At the end of her life, she reignited an interest in sketching and painting. Those who were privy to her art from an early age knew her as an artist.
Over her lifetime, Kim opened the doors to her home and offered a bed to sleep on too many during their times of need. Anytime someone was in her home during a mealtime, there was a seat at her table for them to join. Her heart was filled with empathy towards all people.
Kim raised four boys and had a close relationship with each of them as they grew up. She understood the differences with each child and was able to love each one in the way they needed their mother's love. Her relationships with her sons were custom designed for each of their individual needs. She was close enough to her children that she could tell them anything, even the things they did not want to hear. She built such strong relationships with her sons that at the end of life, each one considered her the world's best mom.
Although Kim had wonderful relationships with her boys, it must be known that as grandchildren came into this world, she produced even more love and attention. As the pillow on her couch says, "my favorite people call me Mimi". Her grandchildren were thought and talked about each and every day, even the days they were not seen.
Those left to cherish Kim's memory are her children, Nick Yarbrough, Anthony Yarbrough, Jeremy Crafton, and Zavery Johnson; grandchildren, Robbie Anne, Thomas, Francis, Alexia, Isabella, Lucas; and siblings, Butch and Eddie; and we cannot forget to mention the many others that referred to her as "mimi". She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marilyn (Brooks) Woods; and siblings, Susie, Lisa, Dorothy.
Visitation for Kim will take place on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, where friends and family are invited to gather to honor her life and legacy. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM in the same chapel, offering a time for reflection and remembrance. Following these services, Kim will be laid to rest in Coal Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of the family.
As we remember Kim Woods, we will hold in our hearts her unwavering spirit, her dedication to family, and her love for the community. She will be forever missed but never forgotten.
Condolences may be shared with the family on the Tribute Wall.
