Larry Allen Dunbar, 70, of Rock Island, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island. A live-streamed funeral service can be viewed online at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 by visiting https://www.wheelanpressly.com/live-stream. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the visitation and funeral service will be private. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family.
Larry was born on September 16, 1950 in Metropolis, Illinois to Clarence Henry Sr. and Frances Elizabeth (Williams) Dunbar. He was number twelve of sixteen children. Larry graduated from Brookport High School in 1968, landed a job at Oscar Meyer in Davenport and moved to Rock Island, where he married Lisa (Pass) Dunbar in 1972 with whom he had three daughters. Larry was a Man of God and a Deacon at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Rock Island and enjoyed going to church, bible study, and teaching Sunday school. He liked cooking and was famous for his BBQ sauces and his peanut brittle. Larry also enjoyed building things and working with wood.
Those left to cherish Larry's memory include his daughters, Divia Dunbar, Tiffane Dunbar, and Monica Dunbar; grandchildren, Shondai, ShaMeka, Robert, Rayvon, JaLynn, and Sentrell; seventeen great grandchildren; siblings, Donnie Dunbar, Ricky Dunbar, Sharon Tingle, Carolyn Gabriel, Mary Young, and Pam Tyson; and a host of others who he was like a father and grandfather to.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; infant granddaughter, Serenity Gray; infant great grandchildren, Jodi Williams and Raymeire Dunbar-Wilson; four brothers, Clarence Dunbar Jr., Paul Dunbar, Wendel Dunbar, and an infant brother; and five sisters, Ollie Mae Eskridge, Lorraine Shelton, Shirley McMiller, JoAnn Dunbar, and Virginia Hester.
