Laurentine Bolden, of Rock Island, IL, formerly of Kansas City, MO, passed away Wednesday July 15, 2015 at Rock Island Nursing and Rehabilitation, Rock Island, IL.
Visitation locally will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 21st, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island, IL. Additional visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, July 23rd, at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Home, 1800 E. Linwood Blvd., Kansas City, MO. A graveside service and burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 24th, at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Laurentine was born in Eufaula, Oklahoma, a daughter of Canary Barnes and Viola Crittenden. Following high school, she received her Associates Degree from MCC- Penn Valley, Kansas City, MO. She married Sam Bolden in March of 1958. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1994.
Prior to her retirement, Laurentine was a Librarian and Substitute Teacher for the Kansas City Missouri public school system for many years. She enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Yancy Bolden, and his wife Jill, of Rock Island, and LaVelle Cogman, of Stockton, CA; grandchildren, Samuel, Tenzing, Christopher and James; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; brother, Fred Crowder, Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Lisa Colby, Tacoma, WA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Laurentine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Billie Huntley and Inez Bruner; and brothers, Joseph Bruner and Charles Bruner.
