Obituary

Laurie Ann Milton, 62, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2025, at Greater Antioch Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family.

Laurie was born May 17, 1962, in Rock Island, to Linda Mountain and the late Richard Seymour. She earned her GED and married Simon Milton on November 7, 1992, in Rock Island. Laurie worked as a housekeeper and nanny for several years. She gave her life to the Lord in 1981 and was a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Pontiac, Michigan. Laurie rededicated back to Greater Antioch Baptist Church in Rock Island last year under Rev. Warren Duncan. She also led a prison ministry where she would share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Laurie loved animals and always rehabilitated those that were hurt. She helped hundreds of animals from squirrels, rabbits, birds, dogs, and cats. Her heart went out to anyone in need. She kept extra groceries to feed anyone who was hungry. Laurie always had an encouraging word, and her goal was to share the love of the Lord with all she came across.

Laurie was also a big fan of Lucille Ball and had an extensive "I Love Lucy" collection. Above all, Laurie loved her family, friends, and animals.

Those left to cherish Laurie's memory include her husband of 32 years, Simon; daughters, Talia (Chris) Moss, LaTanya (Marlo) Cooper, and LaToya Milton; mother, Linda (Tom) Wheatley; grandchildren, Krislyn, Christopher III, Marcus, Tamrianna, Tacory, Treshawn, Shamaya, Quortez, and Alqiyah; 7 great-grandchildren; godson, Devontay Henderson; and siblings, Jamie Sue Pate, Tomi Wheatley Cornado, Crystal (Randy) Kitterman, Artis (David) Bitterman, and Tom (Kathy) Wheatley Jr.
