LaVerne D. Shellady, 78, of Taylor Ridge, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 13228 140th St. W., Taylor Ridge. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made in care of the QC Animal Welfare Center, Milan, or Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
LaVerne was born in Muscatine, Iowa on May 17, 1936, a son of H. Dale and Henrietta Bronkema Shellady. He graduated from Muscatine High School and would later receive his associates degree in Science from Muscatine Community College.
LaVerne married Sue Bivens on October 19, 1958 in Muscatine. He worked for Caterpillar in Pontiac, Ill. for 21 years. Following retirement, he worked at the Greater Auto Auction in Milan.
LaVerne always put his family first followed by his church. He enjoyed collecting antiques, going to auctions and reading books. He was always happy and willing to share a joke with anyone.
Survivors include, his wife, Sue Shellady, Taylor Ridge; son, Brad (Michelle Tacker) Shellady, Taylor Ridge; grandchildren, James and Elizabeth Shellady; brothers-in-law, Dick (Connie) Bivens, John (Linda) Bivens, Tom (Mary Ann) Bivens and Randy (Cheryl) Bivens; sisters-in-law, Minerva Guinn and Sue Shellady; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ron Shellady, brother-in-law, Don Guinn and great niece, Chloe.
The family would like to thank Genesis Hospice, especially Rob, for the tremendous care they received.
