LaVona M. "Lonny" Martin, 85, of Rock Island, died Sunday May 28, 2017 at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am on Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Entombment is in the Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7 Ave., Rock Island, where the Legion of Mary will recite a rosary at 7 pm. Memorials may be made to the Legion of Mary or St. Pius X Catholic Church.
LaVona Morrissette was born on Jan. 20, 1932 on the family farm in Ghent, Minn., a daughter of Arthur and Florence Bender Morrissette. She married Paul V. Martin on April 7, 1951 at the former St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island.
Lonny had worked as a bookkeeper at Blackhawk Bank and Trust, Milan, before joining her husband Paul, as co-founder and co-owner of Renewal Service, Inc. in 1984. She retired in 2000.
She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, the Legion of Mary, Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, Christ Renews His Parish and a co-founder of the Servants of Christ Charismatic Prayer Group. Lonny also had been a member of St. Pius's Adult and Funeral Choirs and was a Befriender at the former Moline Public Hospital. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and making blankets.
Survivors include her husband, Paul; daughter, Terese Marie Martin, Rock Island; son, Thomas Martin, Rock Island; a nephew raised by the Martin's, Steven Wykle, Davenport; grandsons, Brandon Martin and Anthony Martin, both of Rock Island; and a great-grandson, Desmond Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Beverly Ann Madison.
