Lawana “June” Way, 78, formerly of Aledo, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Davenport Lutheran Home.

Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 2001 East 4th Avenue, Milan. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials can be made to Aledo American Legion.

June was born June 8, 1947 in Doniphan, MO, the daughter of Carter and Thelma (Meadows) Payne. She married Warren Herzberg in October 1965 in Rock Island. She later married Melvin Dale Way on February 20, 1988 in Sherrard. He preceded her in death on May 20, 2018.

June worked at the Rock Island Argus and Jacob Super Value, Milan. She was a CNA at Oak Glen Nursing Home and later did home care.

June was a member of Aledo American Legion Auxiliary and Senior Center, Aledo. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking and baking where she made family wedding cakes and birthday cakes. She always had sweet treats when her family came to visit.

Survivors include her children, LeAnne Guyton, Milan, Christine (Tom) Brower, Bloomingdale, Ga., Carla (Mark) Britton, Davenport, and Jodi Herzberg, Kewanee; step-sons, Ken (Sally) Way, Silvis and Ronnie Way, East Moline; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Janice (Jared) Leishing, Milan and Sharon Kaye Wheeler, IA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her step-daughter, Lori Way, brother, William McGuire and sister, Barbara Jones.
