Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" L. Holgate, 77, of Gretna, Nebraska, formerly of Milan, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025 at home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday at church. Burial with military honors will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be left in care of the family and will be forwarded to Endless Journey Hospice, Omaha, Nebraska. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Larry was born on September 11, 1947 in Rock Island, IL, a son of Robert and Vera (Mohr) Holgate. He graduated from Alleman High School in 1965. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1971-1974. Larry married Rosalie (Rose) Beuselinck on November 8, 1975.

Larry retired from the Rock Island Arsenal as a machine tool operator. He kept busy in retirement by working part-time for the Quad City Auto Auction and doing seasonal work for the City of Moline.

Larry is a current member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Gretna, Nebraska. He was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rock Island. He also was a part of the Belgium American Brotherhood and the Western League for Rolle Bolle. He was very active within Rolle Bolle in the Quad Cities. He also enjoyed golfing in various leagues with friends and family. Larry was also a member of the VFW Post in Moline.

Those left to cherish Larry's memory include his wife, Rose Holgate, Gretna, Nebraska; three children, Jennifer (Mike) Cerra, Princeton, IL, Eric (Alana) Holgate, Moline and Tanner (Molly) Holgate, Gretna, Nebraska; grandchildren, Chase Holgate, Kylie Sovey, Margaret Cerra, Harper Holgate and Addison Holgate; great grandchild, Brooks Sovey; siblings, Donna Powell, Taylor Ridge, IL and Mary Anthony, Illinois City, IL; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jonas Holgate.
