Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" M. Taylor, 80, of Coal Valley, Illinois passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Riverside United Methodist Church, 712 16th Street, Moline, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church or Chapel of the Interlude in Drake, Colorado.

Larry was born September 19, 1944, at the Seneca Naval Base, New York, the son of Marshall and Mary (Franks) Taylor. He was first married to Patricia Carey in 1969 and later married to Carol (Spires) Duffy on June 30, 1995, in Erie, Illinois.

Larry graduated from Clinton High School in 1963 and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968 from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and his master's in educational administration from Western Illinois University. He taught at Orion Middle School, Orion, Illinois, Hayti, Missouri, and Glenview Middle School, East Moline, Illinois, retiring from there in June 2002. Larry coached football, track and field, and basketball throughout his career.

Larry was a longtime member of Riverside United Methodist Church where he was very involved. In his leisure time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, reading, attending sporting events, and 3D printing. Larry also liked playing cards and was intensely competitive. He loved traveling and always enjoyed living in Drake, Colorado. Larry was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and lived in a house divided.

Those left to honor Larry's memory include his wife, Carol; daughters, Melissa (Christian) DeClerck and Andrea (Jeff) Duncan; grandchildren, Ryan DeClerck and Morgan Hicks; step-sons, David (Julia) Duffy and Darren (Beverly) Duffy; step-daughter, Dalinda (Ron) Harris; step-daughter-in-law, Sally Herreid; step-grandchildren, Derek and Dustin Duffy, Ryan Archer, Allison Mahle, and Tegan, Collin, Tyler, Abigail, and Bailey Duffy; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 niece; and 1 nephew.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob; sister, Marsha; stepson, Douglas Duffy; and 3 nephews.
