Lehman "Dale" McNair, 82, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Silver Cross Nursing at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2023, at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be one-hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, Rock Island.
Dale was born June 13, 1940, in Batesville, Arkansas, son of J.W. and Euna Belle (Smith) Stephens. He graduated from Buffalo High School in Buffalo, Iowa in 1958. Dale married Shirley A. Treat on July 22, 1960. He retired from John Deere Plow Planter after working 37 years. Dale was a charter member of First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Rock Island, where he has been active for the past 70 years. He was also an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 213 in Rock Island for 40 years. Dale enjoyed gardening and hunting with a camera. He was also the neighborhood handyman for several years, helping his neighbors in need.
Those left to cherish Dale's memory include his wife of 62 years, Shirley; son, Michael McNair, Rock Island; granddaughters, Desiree and Olivia Wiese, both of Rock Island; grandson, Adam (Vanessa) McNair, Matherville; great-grandsons, Ethan, John, and Gavin McNair, all of Matherville; sister, Wanda Pursell, Rock Island; sister-in-law, Judy Hammons, Buffalo, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tonya (McNair) Wiese; daughter-in-law, Vonda (Rochelle) McNair; and brothers-in-law, Damon Pursell and Kenneth Hammons.
