Leland W. Burkle, 88, of Pleasant Hill, IA, formerly of Milan, IL, passed away Tuesday March 31, 2015 at Urbandale Care Center, Urbandale, IA.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Burial will be at Preemption Cemetery, Preemption, IL. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Leland was born June 25, 1926 in Wilton, IA, a son of Elmer and Caroline Hausechild Burkle. He married Joyce D. Armstrong on July 2, 1950 in DeWitt, IA. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2012.
Leland worked for John Deere. He retired from the foundry after 27 years of service. He and Joyce were avid square dancers and enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S.
Surviving are his children, Connie Jackson, and her husband Don, Altoona, IA, Thomas Burkle and Michael Burkle, both of Altoona; grandchildren, Steve (Deborah) Jackson, Papillion, NE, and Jay (Lisa) Jackson, Donahue, IA; great-grandchildren, Vianne, Allie, and Alana Jackson, Ryan, Catelyn, and Shawn Thomas; brother, Laverne Burkle, Davenport; sister, Lillian Forrester, Weaubleau, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Theresa Burkle; and sister, Luella Shepard.
