Leo M. Hopkins, 92, of Milan, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at his home.  A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Edgewood Baptist Church, 2704 38th St., Rock Island.  Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church.  Inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted.  Memorials may be made in care of Edgewood Baptist Church.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, is assisting the family.

Leo was born in Trenton, Missouri on April 16, 1925, a son of Walter and Edith Grim Hopkins.  He married Mary Tutonis with whom he had two children.  He later married JoAnne Kirkpatrick on November 4, 1975 in Gilroy, California.

Leo was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during WWII.

Leo invented the fiberglass idlewild truck camper for Ranchero and El Camino vehicles.  He had twenty-nine dealers throughout the United States.  He was president of Hopkins Manufacturing Corporation before retiring in 1993.

Leo was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord.  He has been a member at Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island for nearly 70 years.  Leo and his wife, JoAnne, loved to travel in the winter.  In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, JoAnne Hopkins, Milan; son, Gerald Hopkins, Moline; daughter, Patricia Ragan, Bettendorf; step-daughters, Valerie Brekke, Davenport and Cheryl Farwell, Peoria; and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wilbur Hopkins and sister, Doris Marshall.
