Obituary

Leo S. Kerker, age 85, of Rock Island, died peacefully at home on Sunday, July 24, 2016.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 pm Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.  Visitation is 4 to 7 pm Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or to the Handicapped Development Center.

Leo was born April 5, 1931 in Rock Island, a son of Kenneth L. and Marie Saunders Kerker.  He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1949, and from Regis College, Denver, Colorado in 1953.  While at Regis he married Beverly A. Huber, also a member of St. Joe's "class of 49".

After 37 years in the wholesale and retail clothing business, Leo retired in 1989.  He spent the rest of his life doing some volunteer work, and together with Bev, enjoying their family.

Leo is survived by his wife Beverly; children (and spouses), Barb Wallace, Davenport, Ken (Carol) Kerker, Eldridge, Alice (Dave) Jones, Muscatine, Kris (Brad) Ruggles, Rock Island, Mary Gantzer, Highlands Ranch, Colo., Mike (Kathleen) Kerker, Castle Pines, Colo.; grandchildren, Sara (Greg) Green, Christine (Michael) Dittmer, Michelle (Michael) Delaney, Stephanie (Jesse) Houseman, Kit and Claire Kerker, Alex, Jordan, Pete, and Sydney Ruggles, Justin and Owen Gantzer, Allison and Thomas Kerker; great-grandchildren, Grace, Cael, Kennedi and Hudson Green, Harleigh Dittmer, Patrick and Connor Delaney, Carter, Ella and Harper Houseman, Eisley Ruggles; brothers and sisters, Sister Alice Kerker BVM, Dubuque, Iowa, Martha (Don) Claver, Holiday, Fla., Myra Kleinschmidt, East Moline, James (Bev) Kerker, Seminole, Fla., Carol Sigler, Rock Island, and Sylvia (Ron) Pollard, Cloverdale, Cal.

Leo was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathryn; his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ann and Ernest Huber; his sisters, Mary Norton and Rita Williams; and his son-in-law, Doug Wallace.
