Leona C. Kean, 82, of Rock Island, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at St. Anthony's Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of The Wounded Warrior Project.

Leona Catherine Groene was born on March 20, 1932, a daughter of the late Carl and Mae (Peterson) Groene. She married Andrew S. Kean on October 4, 1958 in Rock Island, IL.

Leona worked in the cafeteria at Alleman High School for several years. She had also worked at McCabes Department Store in her earlier years. Leona loved spending time with her family and singing at various VFW and American Legion events and dances all around the Quad Cities.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Michael E. (Debra) Kean, Jacksonville, FL, Donna (Ron Sabel) Kean, Davenport; grandchildren, Michael A., Matthew and Mark Kean, Heather Lundy, Jasmine Ratzlaff, and Jamie Sanchez; 4 great - grandsons; 4 great - granddaughters; brother, Donald Groene, Winterhaven, FL; sister, Martha England, Rock Island and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Carl Groene and a daughter, Linda Kean.
