Leona E. Sebben Sheets Thompson, 81, of Rock Island passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A funeral service for Leona will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2921 38 th St., Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7 th Ave., Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, Rock Island or Morning Star Academy, Bettendorf, IA.
Leona was born May 21, 1937 in Rock Island, a daughter of Roland and Minnie (Heinold) Calhoun. She graduated from Rock Island High School and married Reno Sebben in 1957. Reno passed away in 2002. In 2006, Leona married Dale Sheets, who passed away in 2008. In 2013, Leona married Philip Thompson who passed away in 2017. Leona was a homemaker for her family and loved spending time with them all. She was also honored to be considered a second mother, grandmother or "nana" to many.
Leona was a dedicated member of First Church of the Nazarene, Rock Island, where she taught Bible quizzing for many years. She also volunteered in the Kindergarten room at Morning Star Academy. She enjoyed sewing and framing.
Left to cherish her memory are her children; Michelle (Chris) Beckwith, Eldridge, IA; Pamela (Ted) Norton, Milan; Susan (Jeff) Taylor, Rock Island; Todd (Johnna) Sebben, Milan and Kyle (Susie) Sebben, Moline; 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Roberta Wernick, Michigan and brothers, Stanley Calhoun, DeWitt, IA and Marty Calhoun, Milan
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 husbands and a brother, Frederick Calhoun.
