LeRoy George Wallace, 68, Gallatin, Mo., formerly of Hamilton, Mo., and Rock Island, passed away on April 23, 2017, at North Care Hospice, North Kansas City, Mo.
Roy was born on Aug. 26, 1948, in Moline, to Ivan and Darlene Potter Wallace. He graduated from the Rock Island High School in 1966. He honorably served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. Roy was a UH-1 Iroquois (Huey) helicopter pilot during his tour in Vietnam.
Roy had been a welder and worked with his uncle, Vernon Wallace at United Welding for 17 years in Trenton, Mo., before working and retiring in 2012, from I & M Machine Company in St. Joseph, Mo., as a machinist. He was a member of the Jesus House of Prayer Church in Breckenridge, Mo., and a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association.
He was preceded in death by his mother and an infant child. On Aug. 28, 1971, he married Velma Davis in Moline. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include father, Ivan Wallace, Rock Island; children, Carrie McCarthy (Eric), Kansas City, Mo., Corey Wallace (Jackie), Hamilton, Mindy Baker (Marcus), Owosso, Mich., Casey Wallace (Kristen), Ozark, Mo., Matthew Wallace (Serena), Plano, Texas, LeAnne Sweet (James), Cameron, Mo., and Lyndi Wallace, Astoria, N.Y.; siblings, John Wallace (Jan), Silvis, Linda Vondergathen (Dave), Fuquay-Varina, N.C., and Karl Wallace (Roxy), Rock Island; nine grandchildren, Taylor Butterworth (Cameron), Dannee, Kinsey, Chloe, Elijah, Kennedy and Carter Wallace, Dixie Sweet and Logan McCarthy; one great-grandchild, Audree Butterworth; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 28, at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Interment will be at the Preemption Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
