Obituary

Lester R. Carlson, 93, of Moline, IL, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014 at UPH-Trinity Terrace Park, Bettendorf.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial will be at Calvary
Cemetery, Rock Island.Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Lester was born November 15, 1921 in rural Rio, IL, a son of Fred and Nannie "Nan" (Johnson) Carlson. He married the love of his life,Margaret E. Fennesy, on February 14, 1945 in Moline. They were united in marriage for 65 years. She preceded him in death on September 19, 2010.
He received his degree in accounting from Blackhawk College. Throughout his life, Lester continued this pursuit of knowledge.
He was a voracious reader and constantly researched the news and current events.
Lester was employed as Assistant Accounting Comptroller for International Harvester, East Moline, from which he retired after 38 years of service. Following his retirement from I.H., he was the Rock Island County Treasurer for 17 years, and also served for many years
as the treasurer of the Public Building Commission for Rock Island County. He was a member of the Illinois Treasurers Association.
Over the years, Lester and Margaret enjoyed many travels, dining out together and making many special memories with their family.
An avid fan of all sports, Lester was most of all a loyal lifetime Chicago Cubs fan, always believing that "next year would be their year".He also enjoyed following the Chicago Bears and all Illini sports.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Steve Banfield, Moline; grandchildren (and spouses), Shelley Frese, Kentwood, LA,Brett (Mary) Frese, Cary, IL, and Matt (Jennifer) Hallgren, Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren, Tanner Frese, Liz Parsons, Alexis and Will Hallgren; great-great grandchildren, Stella and Landen Parsons; his sister, Marilyn Main, Oneida, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Margaret; daughter, Cindy Frese; sister, Inez Young; and brother, Curtis Carlson.
