Lloyd "David" Varner, 68, of Rock Island passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at home.

No services are to be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in care of David's family. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan is assisting the family.

Lloyd was born on September 28, 1953 in Unionville, MO, a son of Leonard "Junior"  and Erma "Joy" (Gill) Varner. He worked as an underwriter for Bituminous Insurance Companies for many years and then went on to work in maintenance for Smith Filter Corporation. David excelled in academics throughout high school and college, where he was awarded the Who's Who award.

David enjoyed Chicago sports and Sundays watching Nascar.  He cherished time with family and friends. "Papa Dave" truly enjoyed seeing his 2 grandsons graduate high school and moving on in the world.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mom, Erma "Joy" Miller, Rock Island; son, Derek (Angi) Varner, Sherrard; grandsons, Tyler and Brady Varner; sisters, Connie (Kevin) Guthrie, Rock Island, and Sondra Westmoreland, Milan; several nieces and nephews; and long time friend and housemate, Jimmy Fisher.

He was preceded in death by his father, Junior, and brother, Gary Varner.
