Loah L. Finks, 95, Rock Island, passed away Saturday June 21, 2014
at her daughter's home in DeKalb, IL. She was active and independent
until just a week before her death.
Services will be Wednesday, June 25th, 10:30 am at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home,
3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 24th, 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
Loah was born August 21, 1918 in Mystic, Iowa, the daughter of John Snowden
Lewis "Pete" and Mabel Hieronimus Holder. She married Grover J. Bills, who
was killed in World War II. She later married James H. Finks, May 24, 1946
in Mystic, IA. They moved to Rock Island in 1947 where he worked at John
Deere.
As a homemaker who enjoyed baking and sewing, she always stepped in
to help when someone had a project. Loah was an avid reader,
had an extensive vocabulary and loved crossword puzzles. Her home
was a center of neighborhood activity, always open to friends and children.
She kept in touch with neighbors and relatives near and far by phone,
cards and letters. She will be remembered for her honest opinions, wit
and sense of humor.
Loah loved animals and all of her pets were found or adopted. She made it
a point to support veteran, medical, and animal charities, schools and
churches; all now an important family tradition. She was a member and
supporter of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. It was important to her that
family work hard, seek an education and she always encouraged them in
their careers.
Surviving are her daughters: Madelyn J. Nelson (Ferald Bryan), DeKalb, IL, her daughter, Heather Hill; Paula (Vincent) Sapinski, Edwards, IL, her children- Dawn (John) Kocher,
children Ryan, Katelyn and Rachel; Dana Goodmiller, daughter Nicole (Ben) Palmer; Erica Sapinski; Aaron (Chrissy) Sapinski and sons, Adler and Abbott.
Loah was preceded in death by her parents and, husbands Grover in WWII and Jim on April 29, 2001.
