Obituary

Lois D. Polito, 88, of Rock Island, died Saturday, February 28, 2015 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4:30 - 7 pm Thursday, where a Rosary will be recited at 4 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made in care of the QC Alzheimer's Association.

Lois was born in Clark County, Mo. on October 9, 1926, a daughter of Riley and Mabel Carnahan Wollam. She graduated from Farmington High School and Moline Public Nursing School. She married Louis Polito on February 26, 1949 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2000.

Lois worked as a registered nurse in the nursery at Moline Public Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1981.

Lois was currently a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, both of Rock Island. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, camping, knitting and collecting shoes. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children (and spouses), Debra Boniger, Chillicothe, Ill., Thomas (Marilyn) Polito, Ames, Iowa, Michael (Carol) Polito, La Crosse, Wis. and William (Lisa) Polito, Milan, Ill.; grandchildren, Jenifer, Tim, Kristi, Sara, Matthew, Scott, Brett, Megan, Jacob and Jordan; great-grandchildren, Ainsleigh, Paige, Grace and Andrew; sister, Shirley Janeba, Colorado; and sister-in-law, Josephine Polito.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, great-granddaughter, Addie, brother, Jerry Wollam and sisters, Helen Andrews, Ruth Wollam and Ann Rooney.
