Lorraine M. Hender, 96, a lifelong resident of Rock Island, IL passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 1-3:30 PM with a rosary following at 3:30 PM on Sunday, September 24, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 25 at the funeral home. Interment at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Alleman High School.

Lorraine was born on July 1, 1927 to Camiel and Julia (Muylle) Colpert in Moline, IL. She grew up in Rock Island where she graduated high school. On June 7, 1947 she was united in marriage to Douglas Hender at St. Paul's Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Rock Island where they raised their five children.

Lorraine worked in the cafeteria at Rocky for ten years before starting at Bituminous Insurance Company where she did data entry for 18 years until retiring.

Lorraine was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and was president of the St. Joseph's PTA when her kids were young. She loved traveling, especially to Las Vegas and Arizona. She enjoyed going to yard and garage sales, reading, and watching game shows. Lorraine was an avid sports fan, especially the Cubs. She was a frequent caller into Dan "Wildman" Burich on KJOC and became widely known as "Sweet Lorraine."

She is survived by her children, Linda (Kerry) Wallerich, Thomas (Cindy) Hender, Paul Hender, Carol Hender, and Patti (David) Stimpson; grandchildren, Charles Hender, Adam Stimpson, Ben (Terri) Wallerich, and Katie (Chris) McGraw; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Joseph, Jameson, Madeleine, and Matthew; and sister, MaryAnn Garland.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
