Louis Orwitz, 87, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

Funeral services are 11 am Monday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island.  Burial is at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented by Moline American Legion Post 246.  Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Alleman High School or to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Louis was born Sept. 20, 1928 in Muscatine, one of eight children born to Samuel and Bessie Goldstein Orwitz.  He married Ruth E. Carolan  on Oct. 12, 1957 in Rock Island.

He worked as a salesman for Baker Liquor and later Flynn Beverage, both of Rock Island.

Lou was an US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He enjoyed fishing, but his greatest love was for his family.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew and Mary Orwitz, Davenport and Martin and Lisa Orwitz, Le Claire; daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Jeff Fry, Colona; grandchildren, Alaina Orwitz, Rabecca (Gustaf) Uttersten, Olivia Orwitz, Mick Orwitz and Natalie Orwitz.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters.
