Obituary

Louis White, 81, of Rock Island, passed away unexpectedly on April 30th, 2026. He was born on June 25th, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee, son of George and Elizabeth White.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. The service will follow the visitation starting at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Louis graduated from Rock Island High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. After returning to Rock Island, he worked various jobs before finding his true calling behind the wheel. He built a distinguished career as a truck driver for Standard Forwarding, where he was also a proud member of the UAW. After retiring from Standard Forwarding, Louis went on to serve the community as a city bus driver for Metrolink, from which he retired a second time — before returning to work once more as a delivery driver. It was clear that Louis was a professional driver in every sense of the word.

Louis had a deep love of sports. He played baseball and bowled. He was a lifelong, devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bulls, the Chicago Sky, and the Chicago Bears. Beyond the game, he loved classic cars, music, and fishing. Above all else, he loved his family.

Louis married Jennifer Poole in 1986, becoming a devoted father to her children. They had a cherished four decades of marriage. He was previously married to Gloria Saldivar, with whom he had two daughters, Tracy and Rikki.

Left to mourn this great loss are his wife, Jennifer White; daughters Tracy Singleton (Benny) and Rikki Saldivar (Nikki)) ; and children Pierre (Tammy) Gully & Dorian and Shana Poole. He leaves behind grandchildren Nicholas, Alexandria (Esteban Murillo) with great grandchildren Elias, Eva and Amaya; Alana, and Alonzo (Tracy); Markees, Mia with great grandchildren Kaiydyn and Gabriella; and Marissa Serrano (Rikki); Ayla, Kenyatta and Kylana Gully (Pierre); Jamal and Jessica Gully (Giraud); Marcus Poole, Anthony Keller, Nikita Wiseman. Gabrielle and Jennifer Poole (Dorian); Tatyana and Jaimarion Vaughn (Shana); and a host of many more grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley Cook and Laura Vesey; many nephews and nieces; and his longtime friend Stanley Cook.

He was preceded in death by father, George White; mother, Elizabeth Wren; brother, Robert; sister, Mary Morrow; niece, Pam White; and Giraud Gully.

Louis was a man who showed up — for his family & friends, his community, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed.
